Saving the Windows 95/98 Dialer Password

This page tells how to make the Windows 95/98 dialer save your PRIMUS dial-up
password, so you don't have to type it in every time you dial in.

The Win95/98 dialer won't save your password?

To fix this, go to the Control Panel. Double click on the "Network" icon. There will be a
box that says which network components are installed. There should be three things
here:

  • Client for Microsoft Networks
  • Dial-Up Adapter
  • TCP/IP

If the first is not present, passwords will not be saved. Click on "add" below the box,
then "client", then "add", and there will be two boxes side by side. In the left, highlight
"Microsoft", and in the right, highlight "Client for Microsoft Networks", then "OK". This
will send you back to the window with the box of the installed components.

From here, click "OK", and it should start copying some files. If you installed Win95
from floppy disk, it might ask you for one or more of them. Once it's done, it should
ask you to name the machine.

Click the "identification" tab and call the machine anything you want. From here, it
should ask you to restart the computer to make the changes take place. Once you
restart, Windows will ask you to log onto the system. This is not to log onto the
Internet, just Windows itself. For a login name, you should just use something simple,
like your first name. It is important, however, to leave the password field blank. This
way, your machine won't ask you to log onto it everytime you start it up.

Now, when you connect to PRIMUS, it should save your password.
