Configuring MacTCP

MacTCP is included as part of System 7.5 and above.

Adam Engst, the author of TidBits, has written a wonderful book explaining the Internet and reviewing many of the Internet applications you will be using. The Internet Starter Kit for Macintosh should be available at your local bookstore for $25-30 and includes a copy of MacTCP.

The following instructions explain how to configure the Internet applications for use with PRIMUS. (For System 7 only. 6.0.x users will have to modify these instructions.)

This installer will place all of the applications in a new folder named PRIMUS on your desktop and various control panels and extensions in the system folder.
The applications will then need to be configured for your account.

Here's how to install Mac TCP:

Open MacTCP in your control panels folder within the System folder.

Ensure that the PPP Icon is high lighted and the IP address is shown as 192.0.0.0.

If this is not what is shown for an IP address, click the MORE button and enter the following info:

Move the server button to Manually and enter the gateway address as: 207.244.95.150. Then switch back to Server addressing from Manually.

In the lower right enter main domain name - primushost.com - and the IP address 207.244.64.140.

Set Class A in the upper right to Class C. Netmask should be 255.255.255.0

Save with the OK button.

Restart your computer in order for the changes to take effect.
