Click on the Incoming Mail icon. You know must now
choose whether you want to use POP
or IMAP. In short, POP downloads and stores your mail
on your computer, and IMAP keeps it on the remote computer.
POP is the older of the two, so if you've been using another
mail client that didn't give you a choice between these two,
you were probably using POP.
Configuring Eudora Pro 4 for POP

The above window shows the options when set to POP. There are a number of options you can choose here:
- Leave Mail on Server:
- Checking this option would prevent Eudora from deleting
mail from the PRIMUS computer where the mail is stored after
downloading it to your computer. This may cause a problem
as enough mail (especially mail with sizable attachments)
can eventually fill up the disk space you have allocated
to your account. Unless you need to have the mail saved
on the server, we suggest leaving this box unchecked.
There are further options, specifying that Eudora will
delete mail from the server after a specified amount of
time and/or when you delete mail from the trash
mailbox. Again, check these only if you think you need
to.
- Skip Messages...
- If this setting is checked and a number is entered in
the field, then any message larger than the specified size
will not be downloaded. If you enter a 0 (zero) in the field,
then all attachments regardless of size are retrieved. We
strongly recommend that you do not check this
box, as that means you will not see the messages Eudora
skips over, and the skipped messages can slowly build up
until they fill up your disk space quota and cause new mail
to you to be bounced back to the sender.
-
- Offline:
- Check this if you don't want Eudora to try to make any
connections.
Authentication Style:
- Set this to Passwords.
Configuring Eudora Pro 4
for IMAP
The above window shows the options when set to IMAP. There are a number of options you can choose here:
- IMAP Mailbox Location Prefix:
- This should already be filled in with your appropriate
mail server information.
For new mail, download:
- Minimal Headers: If this radio button is selected,
a limited set of message headers will be downloaded for
each message. If it isn't selected, the full set of headers
will be downloaded.
Full message except attachments over...: If this
radio button is selected and a number entered into the
field, then any attachment larger than the specified size
will not be downloaded with the message. If the radio
button isn't selected, then all attachments will be downloaded.
We strongly recommend that you do not select
this option, as that means you will not see the messages
Eudora skips over, and the skipped messages can slowly
build up until they fill up your disk space quota and
cause new mail to you to be bounced back to the sender.
-
- When I delete a message:
- These option allow you to decide what to do with deleted
messages.
Authentication style:
- Set this to Passwords.
Click OK and you're all set.
